DAY 1: 24th January, 2019. AKAWI was at Suleja Prisons, Nigeria in partnership with Her Excellency, the First Lady of Niger State and her NGO Raise Foundation. Our project targeted free cervical cancer screening for all female inmates as well as free Hepatitis B testing and vaccination for all inmates regardless of gender. We screened and tested over 250 persons in Day 1 and also vaccinated a good number of them. We also gave out free face towels to all female inmates to assist with their personal hygiene. AKAWI is expected to return in February and March this year to administer the 2nd and 3rd stages of the Hepatitis B vaccine.
We especially appreciate Almighty God for the success of the project. We also appreciate the First Lady of Niger State for her support as well as our partners, sponsors, donors, volunteers, team. We also thank the ever amiable DCP of the Suleja Prisons and his wonderful members of staff for their cooperation and eagerness to assist. Nigeria is our collective responsibility.
NB: AKAWI received technical support for this project from A Woman’s Heart Foundation and also collaborated with PPFN for technical support.
